One of the VDI's goals is to keep engineering education on a high professional level, but at the same time to adapt it to the changing social and labour market conditions.
Through professional elaborations and active public relations work, it supports the universities in the conception of the study programmes and exerts influence on politics and economy. In the VDI, an honorary committee deals with this topic. The representatives from universities and the world of work see themselves as a group of experts who formulate and, if necessary, represent the VDI positions on the further development of engineering education at national and international forums. The different points of view and competences of the participants are taken into account when developing positions for engineering education;
