In sandblasting, a compressor is used to produce a strong air steel which takes the abrasive (e.g. sand, glass granulate or corundum with different degrees of fineness) from a collection container and accelerates it. The abrasive then hits the surface to be treated together with the air jet at high speed. Due to the cleaning and grinding effect of the blasting medium, undesirable components of the surface, such as rust or scale, are loosened and removed from the surface. The type of abrasive used depends on the surface to be treated and the type of contamination.
