Mode of operation A agitator vessels are used in conjunction with an agitator for homogeneous mixing of different substances. Ideally, they are designed in a cylindrical form with a domed base. Usual heads are the slightly flatter torospherical head or the basket-arch head. A lid with agitator is placed on the container. Some agitator vessels are operated without lids. Industrial plants also have feed and discharge lines for the agitated material as well as integrated measuring instruments. The systems can be heated. The agitated material can be checked via inspection nozzles. Mobile apparatuses are often equipped with special transport aids.Properties The design of agitator vessels depends on the area of application. Stainless steel containers are often used in industry. These are often enamelled to prevent corrosion and achieve a smoother wall. This is how special enamel for biocorrosive processes is applied inside the containers. Enamelled systems can be equipped with double jacket for additional insulation. Other materials used are glass, plastic and ceramics. Pressure agitator vessels are devices with an internal pressure from 0.5 bar. For these devices, manufacturers must comply with special safety requirements and machine guidelines.Application areas In pharmaceutical, chemical and biological laboratories, smaller containers made of glass or ceramics are used for mixing and analysis of substances. Depending on the design, a laboratory can operate the construction of a larger system with heat transfer from the heating system. The design should comply with DIN standards to facilitate the replacement of individual parts in the event of a fault. Operating instructions facilitate operation and prevent damage to the system and accidents. The food industry often uses heatable or coolable agitators for food processing. For example, refrigerated stirring vessels are needed for the production of ice cream. Bakeries use heat-transfer boilers to optimize dough flow. When calculating the stirring times, the size of the vessel and the properties of the agitated material must be taken into account. Mixed material with very different grain sizes tends to spread unevenly. This can be remedied by binding agents, emulsifiers or by changing the grain size before stirring.
