Storage containers are used to store a wide variety of goods safely. They have a cavity which holds the goods and can be closed with lids or provided with a removal opening. Numerous types of storage containers are required in industry, agriculture, trade and commerce for the marking of the standard-compliant construction method on the corresponding products. In the chemical industry, these can be containers for chlorine bleach, liquid nitrogen or methanol. These must be constructed in accordance with the Water Resources Act (WHG) in order to prevent contamination of the surrounding water. This also applies to tanks used for flammable liquids such as oil or diesel. Regular testing by the manufacturers is appropriate here. Gases such as argon and mercury for fluorescent tubes are stored in pressure cylinders or tanks. Chemicals such as caustic soda, sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid are stored in glass containers. Dangerous goods can be deposited in Castor containers before transport. Tanks for used oil and for heating oil are equipped with a level indicator. The filling quantity of the tanks can be easily determined with the aid of the bearing table. The tanks for heating oil are double-walled according to regulations in order to protect the groundwater. Some are underground for safety reasons, some are stationed above ground. Above-ground tanks containing hazardous substances should be fitted with collision protection. The Quality Association is responsible for quality and compliance with the standards. For reasons of cost and sustainability, heaters fed with wood chips or wood pellets are very popular. Containers for pellets can be made of PVC or sheet metal. They are usually equipped with a flap for quick filling. Containers for a biogas plant should withstand extreme requirements. The biogas produced is highly toxic and must under no circumstances escape uncontrolled. For cereals, regular aeration and temperature control during storage is necessary to prevent spontaneous combustion. Potatoes must also be ventilated and fully dried. For sensitive electronic components, the use of conductive storage boxes is recommended, as these do not become electrostatically charged.
