This is because there are various parallel sets of rules at national level that describe the dimensioning and design of containers. The Pressure Equipment Directive leaves open which regulations are applied; in Germany it is usually the AD 2000 regulations. Other regulations such as ASME or CODAP can also be applied to meet the safety requirements of Annex I of the Pressure Equipment Directive.
