Ironing machines are equitment which could drag with a fabric covered roller under heavy pressure fabrics or other materials through a metal trough. This is strongly heated beforehand, so that a smoothing effect occurs. Control can be exercised through a kind of pedal. This can for instance configure the rotation speed. Such machines are up to 1 m wide and generally foldable. Of course, there are also industrial forms which are used for example in the paper or cleaning industry. Modern model versions even have a built-in water heater. Therein water vapor is produced, which thereafter is applied by means of special nozzles or slit components on the objects to be ironed. These devices are designed primarily for textiles with a large surface, such as bed sheets. In earlier times one called such equipment a mangle.
