Wooden houses are houses or huts made entirely or largely of wood. Today, pure wooden houses are rarely used to live in. However, they are popular as garden sheds, tool sheds, barn, stable or storage sheds. Wooden huts or wooden houses are particularly popular with do-it-yourselfers, since they can be built independently at no great cost.Until modern times, houses were mostly built of wood, since wood was an inexpensive, easily obtainable raw material, which was available in abundance. Wood is also easy to work with. The first cities in Europe therefore consisted mainly of wooden buildings. However, wooden houses have some disadvantages. Wood is easily combustible, if it ignites, there is a risk that houses made of wood will be destroyed within a very short time. In 1666, four fifths of London's houses were burnt by a devastating conflagration. Furthermore, many types of wood are only conditionally weather-resistant, especially if they are untreated. Sun, rain, frost and wind can quickly damage houses. Some Scandinavian countries, including Sweden and Finland, are famous for their traditional wooden houses, which are now considered a tourist attraction and symbolic of Nordic living culture.
