Normal pliers are used to hold or press down something. If you press a pair of pliers firmly together, the force acts on the object between the pliers. For example, a plumber uses a pipe wrench to screw the pipes on with it. This is specially designed so that screws and nuts can be gripped better and then screwed on. The shape and lever action of the pliers make them easy to unscrew. Once the work is done, you can simply screw these nuts back on again by using the pliers one more time.
