The history of PESA Bydgoszcz SA is connected with the first railway line which reached the city of Bydgoszcz in 1851. Warsztaty Naprawcze Wschodniej Kolei [The Repair Workshop of the Eastern Railway], today's PESA Bydgoszcz SA, was set up together with the first railway station. The workshop covered an area of 1 hectare and employed a foreman and 20 workers. However, expansion work started very quickly and a new administrative building was opened in 1855. A year later, a repair shop for steam locomotives, a warehouse and a wagon repair shop were built.
