Road salt is used particularly often, both in dry and liquid form, whereby in this form the salt is mixed with splash water. The road salt causes the ice to thaw and the roads to become clear. However, since salt also has disadvantages and too much salt is bad for the environment, alternatives should be used as a spreading agent.In addition to these de-icing salts, there are blunting spreading agents, such as grit, granulate, sand or gravel. They ensure that paths and roads are no longer too slippery and that it is easier to ride or walk on them. Spreading materials are used by communities to clear the roads of mud, snow and ice in winter. The spreading materials are then distributed with the aid of spreading vehicles in order to avoid accidents. Private households also use grit to clear their pavements and property of snow and ice. For these, however, it is recommended to spread with sand, gravel or grit in order to protect their paths and the environment.
