The manual gearbox is a gearbox design of the spur gear. The speed ratios are formed by pairs of gears. The structure of a manual gearbox essentially consists of two parallel gear shafts, whereupon the gears can be shifted via a linkage with the aid of the gear lever. As a rule, these gears have helical toothed wheels. The advantage of helical gears is that no impacts are generated during tooth engagement. In the helical gears of the gear pairs, two or more teeth are always in contact at the same time. This greatly increases the robustness of the transmission. Manual transmissions belong to the group of change speed transmissions, since the gear pairs can be interchanged. To change the respective gear steps, the frictional connection between drive and gear must be uncoupled by means of a coupling. In addition, manual transmissions (manual transmissions) have one pair of gears for each gear. If a gear is engaged, one of the gear pairs is shifted into the power flow via a linkage with the aid of the hand lever. These gearboxes are used, for example, in conventional machine tools. With a conventional lathe, the speed of the headstock is also controlled by a manual gearbox of this type. Furthermore, manual transmissions are used as vehicle transmissions in the automotive industry.
