Electric welding is an arc welding process in which current flows between the electrode and the workpiece. The welding electrode serves as a positive pole, via a clamp to the workpiece of the negative pole. The resulting short circuit forms an arc with a very high temperature at which welding can be performed. In order to obtain a perfect weld, the rule of thumb applies: the core diameter of the welding electrode is 40 amps. During electric welding, the welding electrode must be held at an angle of 70 degrees to the workpiece. The welding electrode supplied by hand melts, causing slag to form on the workpiece during welding. Unlike gas shielded arc welding, this welding process does not have to be protected from external environmental influences. Welding electrodes with a special coating are used to stabilize the arc and protect the weld from oxidation.
