A crane scale is a more robust version of a hanging scale, as used in the private sector, e.g. for checking the weight of luggage. To determine the weight, the load is suspended freely from the crane scale using a hook or shackle, the weight can then be easily read off the digital LED display. It is very common in manufacturing companies, but is also indispensable in the shipping area or when loading container ships. When choosing the appropriate crane scale, you should not only consider the ambient conditions, but also the expected weight loads during weighing: The maximum load to be applied to the crane scale should not exceed approx. 2/3 of its nominal load. This measure is intended to prevent the load cell from being overloaded by a dynamic load, e.g. caused by the lifting movement of a crane.Crane scales are available in very different performance and price classes. The simplest models with a weighing capacity of less than 1,000 kg cannot be calibrated and can therefore only be used within a company. They are already available for less than 100 euros; their price increases with the increase in the maximum weighing capacity. They have an aluminium housing and can be supplied on request with an ISO certificate issued by an independent calibration laboratory. The models are equipped with an infrared remote control, which makes them very easy to use.High-quality crane scales, which are available up to a maximum weighing capacity of 30 t, offer a significantly wider range of performance features. Some models are manufactured with all-round impact protection, which makes them very resistant to shocks. Others are network-compatible and can transmit the data by radio; this feature is offered as an option on some models. All crane scales designed for higher weighing ranges can be calibrated, but calibration ex works must be ordered separately. Subsequent calibration after delivery is not possible.
