Welding Neck Flanges
Flanges are used to connect pipelines tightly but again detachably. Depending on the requirements, different types of flanges are used, which differ in stability and type of mounting. Flanges can be welded or screwed to the pipe. Pre-welding flanges are flanges with an extension for welding pipes. The blank is forged from steel and finished by drilling and turning or bent from section steels into rings and then welded. Pre-welding flanges are mainly used to connect pipes which are under high pressure because they are particularly stable or if bolting the flange to the pipe is not possible for technical reasons. An application example is mining, where not only water but also compressed air is used. Because of the high risk of explosion in the cleats, no welding is allowed, the pipes must be connected mechanically. The mining companies provide flanged pipes at a pressure of up to 160 bar. For pipes up to 40 bar, loose flanges are used, while welding neck flanges are fitted at higher pressures.
