Pressure valves are pneumatic and hydraulic components that are used in technology to limit or even control pressures. The operation of a pressure valve is always dependent on a signal pressure. In practice there are 3 types of pressure valves: the pressure relief valve, the pressure reducing valve and the pressure switching valve. Pressure relief valves protect hydraulic systems against damaging overpressure. They are also referred to as pressure relief valves or DBV for short. Pressure reducing valves reduce the pressure within hydraulic systems to a generally permissible value. For this purpose, they usually work in conjunction with pressure relief valves connected upstream of them. Pressure sequence valves block pressure lines until so-called setting pressures are reached. ApplicationTechnically, the types of pressure valves mentioned are used in practice in submarines or in pressure chambers for underwater work, the so-called caisson chambers, for example. Pressure relief valves are also used by the fire brigade. Here they absorb sudden pressure surges in long extinguishing water pipes, for example when extinguishing fires in multi-storey buildings. Pressure reducing valves are also found in all public water supply networks. Here they fulfil the task of continuously maintaining the system pressure of at most 10 bar. A pressure reducing valve must also be attached to the carbon bomb when draught beer is served. The same applies to scuba diving, provided compressed air is used in the tanks of the respective diver.
