Car tyres come in several variaties. They most frequently used are winter and summer tyres.

Summer tyres are the best choice when it is warm and dry. In contrast to so-called all-weather tyres, summer tyres are a better choice for normal every day use on a car. Winter tires are tires that are specially designed for low temperatures and wet as well as slippery roads. They serve to support the driver during the driving, steering and braking of the vehicle. Winter tires are marked by the letter 'M + S, which stands for mud and snow. With this labeling you should be careful however as for example in the US this sign may also be printed on summer tires. In Germany, as in many other countries, a winter tire requirement is applicable which dictates that you must have winter tyres on your car at certain times on your car in order to be allowed to participate in traffic.

Visually, Winter tires differ from normal tires in that the winter tires have larger groove treads and tunnels, as it is the case with "summer tires". In addition, winter tires have additionally slats to access them better.

But even if winter services make full use of their snow vehicles in winter, you should not rely on the roads to be free from snow and ice. An all weather driving style as well as the right tires are still the best way to get good at driving through the winter and of course also through the summer.
