A semi-trailer tractor is a truck, only without a loading area. A semi-trailer can be coupled to the vehicle via a kingpin, which the driver of the tractor can easily do without outside help. The advantage of these vehicle combinations is that the large semi-trailer can be unloaded and loaded without a tractor unit. With a normal truck, the entire vehicle would stop during the loading process. The driver of a semitrailer tractor simply drives to a loaded trailer, couples it and starts the transport to the next defined destination.This vehicle combination can be moved backwards quite well after some practice of the driver. In this way, loading ramps can easily be approached from various shops. Due to the short distance of the axles from the tractor in connection with the king pin, this vehicle combination can turn almost on the spot. These vehicles have become indispensable for transport and all truck dealers have semitrailer tractors in their range. In certain federal states, there are even so-called gigaliners on the motorways, which can carry up to 60 tons. These large vehicles are only allowed to drive on certain routes.
