A construction company transports its building materials in a covered wagon, a train pulls loaded wagons behind it and the holidaymaker stows his equipment in a camper.All these are examples of drawbar trailers. They do not move on their own, but are pulled by a towing vehicle, e.g. a car. For this purpose the trailer is equipped with an axle or axle group and a drawbar which is connected to the trailer coupling of the towing vehicle.There are different types of drawbar trailers. A distinction is made between rigid drawbar trailers, special trailers and articulated drawbar trailers. Other than cars in which almost exclusively rigid drawbar trailers are used, articulated drawbar trailers are mainly used in trucks. Here the trailer chassis is connected to several axles, whereby the front axle can be steered. The trailer is attached to the truck by mounting the front axle on a turntable and connecting it firmly to the drawbar. This gives it better manoeuvrability, which is particularly important in bends.
