Dumbwaiters are smaller than passenger elevators. They are mainly used in buildings such as nursing homes, hospitals or hotels. They are used to transport the food from the central kitchen of the building to the individual floors with as little time as possible. The use of dumbwaiters keeps the food warmer than if it were transported over several floors with the staff. The risk of food loss is also minimised, as they can be placed on fixed trolleys and thus do not fall off.
