Rod end bearings are self-aligning, maintenance-free spherical bearings. igubal® from igus® is a system series of rod end bearings made of high-performance plastics. This type series is made entirely of plastic. Rod ends consist of a spherical plain bearing and the housing with a threaded shank and right- or left-hand internal or external thread. Types are available in standard metric and inch dimensions. Rod end bearings - as well as all types of maintenance-free spherical bearings from igus® - are lubricant-free and can be used in harsh environments. In moist or wet applications, their great advantage is their corrosion resistance. They are also resistant to weak acids and alkalis. Possible operating temperatures range from -30 to +80 °C, depending on the application. They are particularly insensitive to dirt and dust and, due to the maintenance-free dry operation, do not adhere. There are versions of the rod ends that are especially suitable for use in food technology, as the materials used can be detected. This means that they can be found quickly in plants should problems occur. Even minimal fragments can be found using common metal detection techniques. igubal® maintenance- and lubricant-free rod end bearings are particularly suitable when weight must be saved in the application, when oscillating, rotating and linear movements must be realized, with prevailing high-frequency oscillations or vibrations, with desired low noise levels, when an electrically insulating solution is required, for freedom from corrosion, in combination with pneumatic cylinders and gas pressure springs, for chemical resistance, if high rigidity is required. Also available as high temperature version for application temperatures above +80 °C. The igubal® rod end bearings absorb high forces at normal application temperatures, they have very good damping properties and only weigh one fifth of conventional metallic spherical bearing solutions. Thanks to extensive tests, an expected service life can be calculated for many standard applications. At particularly high continuous loads or higher temperatures, the load-bearing capacity of the rod ends should be tested in individual cases in a practical test, which we are happy to carry out in our own laboratory.
