Solenoid coils are electromagnets; they consist of a coil around which a magnetic field forms when current flows through. The coil contains an iron core which amplifies the magnetic field. The amplification of the magnetic field by the iron core and other ferromagnetic materials is only possible up to a maximum saturation flux density of 1 to 2 Tesla. Extremely strong electromagnets are therefore produced without a material core. The functional principle is the formation of a magnetic field around a current-carrying conductor. Due to a uniform winding of the coil, the magnetic field is mainly above the conductor and inside the coil. This results in a coherent magnetic flux in the axial direction.
