Description

PTL Hermann GmbH develops and manufactures vibration type level switches for detecting the presence or absence of powdered or granular solids that are stored in all kinds of silos, hoppers and containers. The products get distributed worldwide.
Principle of operation:
a vibrating system gets forced to vibrate on its resonance frequency by a piezo crystal drive. If filling material, (bulk solids), covers the vibrating blade of the probe, its vibration gets damped. This is sensed by the electronic circuit and the output switches. When the blade gets uncovered due to declining level, the instrument restarts to vibrate and the output switches back.

Areas of application

The instruments can be used for overfill protection, for high or low level alarm and in a special configuration for the detection of interfaces, e.g. sand that has settled in water (special model SEDIMENT).

Vibrating Level Switch
Limit switches should give a pulse when a preset level is reached, which, for example, switches off the motor of a pump. A well-known example is the float switch in the oil tank, which is designed to prevent the full tank from overflowing during oil delivery by switching off the pump.Today they are increasingly being replaced by vibrating level switches. With a vibrating level switch, an oscillator vibrates up to 500 Hertz, similar to a tuning fork. This vibration generator is embedded in the medium, which, for example, is filled into a tank or passed through a pipeline. If the density of the medium changes, the current consumption of the vibration generator also changes. In pipelines a vibrating level switch can detect that the normally transported medium is no longer present. The triggered pulse can, for example, switch off a pump.Also dusty media (example: Flour lines in large bakeries) can be monitored. Due to the lack of mechanical parts, maintenance work is no longer necessary. Compliance with existing hygiene regulations is greatly facilitated.
