Transformer Systems
Transducer systems are devices for sound conversion that convert sound alternating pressures into electrical signals as acoustic signals. An electrical voltage is converted. Converter systems are, for example, sensors, microphones and pickups that receive sound and loudspeakers that generate sound. Different principles are used in the transducer systems for electroacoustic converters. The telephone and the hearing aid function electromagnetically. The hand microphone and simple headphones function electrodynamically. The lapel microphone and broadband headphones function electrostatically. The microphone works piezoelectrically and the telephone works piezoresistively. In the past, magnetostrictive transducer systems were used under water in the ultrasonic field, whereas piezo transducers are used today. Electrodynamic transducer systems such as the microphone and the loudspeaker function in principle by means of a fixed, permanent magnetic field and an internally moving electrical conductor. The electrical conductor is mechanically coupled to a vibrating diaphragm. Usually it is wound into a voice coil or it consists of a light metal foil. The electrical conductor of a transducer system exerts a force F on the diaphragm during transmission. If it is ensured that the conductor remains homogeneously magnetic even with all movements to be performed, then particularly uniform, low-distortion transducer systems can be constructed in the transducer system.
