Properties

Toughness: It has higher impact resistance and toughness, making it useful in

Machinability: Ductile iron is generally easier to machine than other cast iron
types, allowing for precise and complex castings.

Casting Process
The manufacturing of ductile iron castingsinvolves:
Melting:Iron is melted in a furnace, often with the addition of alloying elements.
Inoculation:Magnesium is added to the molten iron to form spherical graphite nodules.
Casting: Themolten iron is poured into molds to form the desired shapes.
Cooling:Controlled cooling is used to ensure the desired microstructure and properties
are achieved.
