The innovative compact air-conditioning central unit is basically composed of a gas motor-driven heat pump with a downstream compact air-conditioning central unit or split air-conditioning units. Integrated control and regulation systems are used for regulation. The use of natural or liquid gas is possible as an energy source. The installation of the gas motor heat pump is intended to be installed outside the building or facilities. By using the ambient and exhaust air, the use of primary energy can be significantly reduced compared to the known energy supply systems. A comprehensive energetic analysis was carried out at the Institute of Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. With a heating coefficient of 1.4, the innovative compact climate control centre is superior to all conventional building heating systems. The gas motor heat pump achieves a COP value of 4.55. By using the motor heat, full heating performance can be guaranteed down to an outside temperature of -20°C. The maximum flow temperature is 55°C.

Wärmetechnik Quedlinburg has been working on research and development topics for several years. The main focus here is on the further development of gas engine heat pump systems in order to achieve the greatest possible efficiency of these appliances. The topic "Innovative Klima-Kompakt-Zentrale" was completed in 2007. The results are presented in the article "Energy-efficient coupling of a gas heat pump with a central air conditioning unit". An experimental stand was set up at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg to work on this topic.
