Wax is a certain group of substances. Its mechanical-physical properties are highly temperature-dependent. They are defined as waxes based on these typical properties. They can have very different chemical compositions.Waxes are kneadable or solid at 20°C, but not liquid. They must be translucent in colour, but not glassy transparent. The melting point of waxes is 40°C. From here they become viscous and liquid more slowly or faster depending on the type.There are different types of wax. The vegetable or animal waxes are lipids, i.e. they are composed of fatty acids. The best-known animal wax is beeswax.Also there are earth waxes which consist mainly of hydrocarbon chains and therefore do not contain any fatty acids. However, certain waxes can also be produced artificially. An important component of synthetic waxes is crude oil. Today, waxes are used in a variety of industries. Wax, for example, is a good lubricant as an adjuvant. It is also used in the manufacture of various products. Candles consist mainly of the raw material wax. In cosmetics, waxes such as jojoba oil are often used in creams. Natural waxes are also used as release agents in the food industry. Wax is most widely used as a means of polishing furniture and as a material for the figures in the wax museum.
