Barcode readers are optical data acquisition devices. Using infrared technology, they can read barcodes and make their encrypted data visible. Therefore, each of these reading systems works with a scanning and a decoding unit. The special feature here is the interconnection of these two components. This is not the case with other similar systems, such as the swipe reader or the wand. Such systems are very cost-effective, but have the disadvantage that they can only ever decode barcodes on documents with corresponding dimensions. For longer codes, fixed devices are more suitable.
