Outsourcing is the outsourcing of different parts or the entire IT to an external provider, who then takes over all necessary functions. The opposite of outsourcing is called insourcing, whereby an earlier outsourced part is reintegrated into the company.

Per definition (according to Lux/beautiful) three forms of IT outsourcing are distinguished:

Example EAN - IBM
For the standardized exchange of electronic business data between suppliers and service providers, IBM has developed the application eXite for EAN. To ensure fail-safe operation in two IBM data centers on the company's iSeries servers.


Example Flaga - Kapsch
Initially Kapsch Business.Com took over the client&server support for 70 users at Flaga's four Austrian locations. The resulting cost savings and good cooperation led Flaga to outsource the entire communication to Kapsch BusinessCom, including the implementation of a call center.
