How does it work?
Anyone who has ordered or bought something from a country that is not part of the EU will be familiar with customs clearance. Here is a text for all those who have not had the experience.
Customs clearance describes the customs treatment of goods. This means that these goods and products, which have to be cleared through customs, are checked by the customs office and a duty is imposed on them depending on their value. The value at which customs have to be paid varies from country to country, for example €22 in Germany and €20 in Austria. The customs amount depends on the type of goods and is between 1-8%. Additionally the import sales tax is added, which is about 19%.
The customs clearance is as follows:
You order or buy the goods abroad and the seller sends or returns them. Once in the destination country, customs formalities begin. The customs office will check the goods, determine how much duty has to be paid, then you will either be let through or informed that your goods have arrived. Now the amount is paid personally at the customs office or to the postman. However, it is also possible that the customs office does not release the goods and move them in. The goods then remain in the customs warehouse.
