Zipping machines are machine tools which manufacture metal workpieces at 90 degree boards. Zipping machines are therefore capable through the operation of bending to manufacture metals of 4 different types of folds: the Pittsburgh seam, the standing seam, the snap seam and cam seam.

A Pittsburg-fold connection consists of 2 sheets. One of these plates has a Pittsburgh seam on its side, while the second sheet has a standing seam.
Both folds can now be inserted into one another and closed flush with a hammer or a seam locker. A snap seam connection also consists of 2 plates, one of these plates has on its side a snap seam, however the other sheet on its side has a cam standing seam. Both folds can now be tucked into each other now, with the cam caught in the edge of snap seam caught, resulting in a final flush of the two sheets. To produce a further fold connection between sheets, the canal seam, which is characterized by its perfectly sealed, is used which requires a special canal folding machine.
