Power tools that gradually cut a material with a punch and a die are called nibbling machines. They are also called nibblers, nibblers or rodents, their activity as nibbling, punching or nibbling. A stamp that moves quickly up and down"nibbles" through the material. Parts of the material are separated by the fact that the punched holes are put together in a specific way. The greater the overlap of the punched holes, the smoother the cutting edge becomes, but the more frequently the punch must also be moved. The tool is controlled by a CNC system. Nibbling machines are mainly used to machine sheet metal. With their punches, for example hollow round punches or square punches, not only simple geometric shapes can be cut out of the materials. In principle, openings and contours in all shapes and sizes are possible by combining several machining steps. The special feature of nibbling machines is that they can also cut out complex shapes with the help of a simple stamp. Nibbling machines are therefore particularly used for cutting larger radii or irregular shapes. Unlike many other production processes, nibbling is free of emissions and distortion, neither dust nor exhaust gases are produced. The nibbled off materials fall off as (if necessary also easily reusable) chips. The machining process is carried out without the use of heat. Nibbling machines allow a clear view of the working surface and offer a high cutting speed.
