In the CNC machining department, inserts are machined on modern CNC lathes and CNC machining centres. CNC is the abbreviation of Computer Numerical Control, which is translated into "Computer Numerical Control" in Chinese. The core is the technology of controlling mechanical movement through computer programs to achieve precision machining and automated operation. It has completely changed the traditional mode of mechanical processing relying on manual operation, and is widely used in manufacturing, aerospace, automobile, medical and other fields. It is one of the core technologies of modern industrial automation.

According to the machining object and motion mode, CNC equipment can be divided into several categories, the most mainstream of which include:

• CNC lathe: It mainly processes "rotating parts" (such as shafts and disks), drives the workpiece to rotate through the spindle, and the tool moves in the radial/axial direction to cut (such as machining automobile axles and bolts).
• CNC milling machine: processing "non-rotating parts". Through the rotation of the tool, the worktable drives the workpiece to move, and realizes plane, groove, curved surface and other processing (such as processing mobile phone shell molds and mechanical brackets).
• CNC machining center (MC): An "automatic tool changer" (tool magazine) is added on the basis of the milling machine, which can automatically switch different tools to complete drilling, milling, tapping and other processes, without manual tool change, and the efficiency is greatly improved. It is the core equipment for batch processing of complex parts.
• CNC grinding machine: used for high-precision "grinding machining", the surface of the workpiece is finely grinded by the grinding wheel, achieving extremely high surface roughness and dimensional accuracy (for example, machining the inner and outer rings of bearings, precision mold cavities).
• Other special equipment: such as CNC wire cutting (processing complex mold cavities), CNC laser cutting machine (cutting metal/non-metal plate), CNC engraving machine (small precision engraving, such as seal, jewelry).
