Force measurement at ALTHEN consists mainly of many years of experience in advising and selecting the appropriate force transducers for the application. Each application places individual demands on force measurement. From miniature force sensors, ring force transducers and bending beams to load cells with 1000 tons measuring range, we can choose from a wide range of sensor technology.
We use only the highest quality strain gauges as sensor elements for converting the mechanical strain of a membrane into an electrical output signal. The measuring strips are connected directly on the measuring membrane to form a so-called Wheatstone full bridge. The measuring bridge then converts the membrane expansion into a change in resistance for the force measurement.
In contrast to pressure measurement technology, in force measurement in general the mV signals of the full bridge as a measurement signal of the force sensor are converted into an industry-standard voltage or current signal via an external measuring amplifier. This has the advantage, among other things, that the force transducer can be ideally adapted to the most varied requirements of force measurement.
These are, for example, the taring of offset weights of different sizes or the parallel connection of several force transducers or load cells. This describes the most important part for force measurement.
The measuring chain is supplemented by the measuring amplifier already mentioned, mounting aids, cabling and signal visualization or measurement data acquisition. The strain gauge measuring amplifiers are available in 3 standard versions: for DIN rail mounting, wall mounting (also as IP housing) and for a larger number of measuring channels also as 19" rack module. The measuring amplifier is individually adjusted to the requirements of the force measurement. Output signal requirements are taken into account as well as parallel connection of several sensors or taring (compensation) of a static zero point offset.
The force measurements may also require further customer-specific adaptations: for example, the combination of different measuring channels, also with other physical quantities such as pressure or displacement measurement. It is also possible to integrate limit value contacts and alarm transmitters or to install them in over-casing and control cabinets.
