Testing of components by means of permeability measurement
The movement of electrical charge carriers in a vacuum is disturbed by the inherent magnetism of surrounding components. For high-tech applications such as accelerator technology or in surface analysis using electron beams (SEM, LEED, LEEM), therefore, only materials that do not exhibit inherent magnetism, are low in remanence and have low permeability may be used. While the intrinsic magnetism and remanence (induced intrinsic magnetism by the brief exposure to an external magnetic field) can be investigated relatively easily by means of an applied permanent magnet, the examination of permeability is much more complicated. REUTER TECHNOLOGIE has been using this complex procedure for a long time in the development of its own assemblies and components, for example to determine the shielding of a pipe or a chamber against external magnetic flux densities.
