Capacitive inclination sensors consist of 2 chambers designed as capacitors which are filled with an oil as dielectric. As a result of the change in inclination, the viscous oil runs from one chamber of the inclination sensor to the other chamber, thereby creating a change in capacity. Both capacitors are differentially connected. The integrated electronics converts the change in capacitance of the inclination sensor into a voltage signal proportional to the inclination.
In this design, the inclination sensors provide the measuring signal for 1 measuring axis, the measuring range is +/-45 degrees. In a dome-shaped version with 4 capacitors, the inclination sensor can directly provide measured values for 2 measuring axes, but the measuring range of the inclination sensor is reduced to 20 degrees.
ALTHEN uses these inclination sensors and installs the inclination sensors together with amplifier electronics in an aluminium die-cast housing. This results in a flexible inclination measuring system that can be used very well for industrial applications in harsh environments. The amplifier electronics are available as voltage (5 V or 10 V) and current amplifier (0 or 4...20 mA). The scaling can be selected between +/-3 and +/-45 according to customer specifications. By grouping 2 individual inclination sensors over a rigid 90 degree angle, the 1-axis inclination sensor can also be turned into a 2-axis measuring system.
In a special ATEX-approved version, the 1-axis measuring system can also be used as an intrinsically safe version in hazardous areas. Due to the modular design, consisting of inclination sensor and additional electronics, the measuring system is also very well suited to the requirements for use in customer-specific applications.

TURCK's robust inclination sensors of the Q20L60 and Q42 series are suitable for almost any inclination angle detection and can also be used in systems that perform fast movements or are exposed to shocks. Sensors are available for angle ranges of ±10°, ±45°, ±60° and ±85° and with a freely selectable measuring range of 0...360°. The following output variants are available: 4...20 mA, 0.1...4.9 V, 0...10 V, pnp/npn switching window as normally closed or normally open contact, IO-Link, CANopen.

The ASC tilt sensors of the TS series are available as uniachsial (TS 91V1) and biachsial (TS92V1) sensors and are characterized by their high resolution and wide temperature range.
The ASC inclination sensor based on MEMS technology measures static inclinations of +/- 90 degrees and can measure in horizontal and vertical direction.
The ASC tilt sensor has a high shock limit and a good temperature coefficient. In addition, the sensor shines with long-term offset stability and can be used in a wide temperature range. The sensor measures changes in inclination and is mainly used for accident prevention and for monitoring systems in the automotive, rail, construction and renewable energy sectors.
