TrueStop® anal tampons are available in various sizes and exert a sealing function in the rectum to prevent involuntary passage of stools. The suitable tampon size can be determined by prior examinations or by trying out different sizes using the TrueStop® trial packs.
When partial function of the sphincter muscle is preserved, TrueStop® anal tampons are used to strengthen the sphincter muscle. The tampon is firmly enclosed by tensing the muscle. The muscle is briefly kept under tension and then released. Repetition of this exercise gradually strengthens the sphincter muscle. TrueStop® anal tampons are made of polyvinyl formal foam. They are soft, skin-friendly and well tolerated by mucous membranes. No allergies are known. They have a fine porous structure and provide complete sealing of intestinal contents for a limited time.
This timespan differs between individuals and is between three to six hours. The TrueStop® anal tampon is fitted manually using an applicator. Pressure tests have shown that the adhesiveness of the TrueStop® tampons reaches levels equivalent to the resting pressure of the sphincter muscle. TrueStop® anal tampons therefore offer a high degree of security.
