Ceiling lifts are used very commonly when it comes to lifting or transporting people with reduced mobility. For care dependent people often movements such as the erection in bed or getting into a wheelchair are a problem. These challenges are performed by a ceiling lift which is attached on rails to the ceiling, so that different positions can be achieved in a small space.

Other ceiling lifts are operated with roller and rope constructions. But ceiling lifts are also often used to negotiate stairways, for example, if the staircase is built too closely and no further installations are allowed. Then rails are attached to the ceiling and are appended as desired to a seat lift or a wheelchair lift.

With a ceiling lift the staircase remains as far as possible free, despite built-in lift, and also people who do not need a lift, can freely use the stairs. Therefore ceiling lifts are likely to be installed in tenements where several parties live, but are also very popular in hospitals and other care facilities ceiling lifts.

The control of a ceiling lift is usually done via a remote control, so that people have access to an independent ceiling lift with reduced mobility, provided that they are physically able to do so.
