Carbon belts are industrially manufactured from carbon fibers, also called carbon fibers or carbon, whose fibers consist of carbonaceous starting materials. The chemical process pyrolysis converts them into graphite-like carbon (CO) with a diameter of approx. 5-8 micrometers. Especially the aircraft industry has high hopes for carbon tapes, because lighter wings and fuselage could reduce the respective costs, e.g. kerosene, enorrm and thus provide the airlines with a lot of profit. It is also corrosion-resistant and, unlike conventionally used materials such as steel structures or aluminium, does not require extensive maintenance to prevent rust, among other things. However, it is difficult to process carbon after any accidents, which can lead to dents and cracks in the vehicle part. Since the material is extremely strong, it is also difficult to reprocess. In the case of repairs, for example, it loses stability and therefore has to be processed particularly laboriously.Carbon tapes are finding their way into the industry in many ways. The flexible bands consist of so-called carbon rovings. Carbon ribbons are produced by stapling several of these carbon rovings in layers on top of each other during production. Carbon tapes, also known as carbon fiber tapes or CFRP tapes, are available in different versions. They differ in width and thickness. Some of the tapes are also available with an auxiliary glass chain, which gives them additional weight and less strength, but above all an improved structure, which can be used for floor coatings, laminate, etc. in particular. Carbon belts have many applications due to their material properties such as tensile strength and flexibility. In addition to integration in laminate, areas such as racing also benefit from this. In racing, carbon ribbons of 125 - 340 g/sqm are used in particular. They are particularly rigid and strong and have electrical conductivity.In addition to this area, from a craftsman's point of view, carbon strips are also used for welding. Among them the self-adhesive carbon tape, which is used for the inspection of exact welding seams in industrial production.Further areas of application for carbon tapes include in/as: label printers, thermal transfer printers and ribbons.
