Apparatuses is interpreted differently in various disciplines. Efforts exist in order to standarise the term as material transcribing devices. In addition a signal transcribing and energy transcribing device would be included. In principle under this term a structure of higher complexity is understoof which in turn may be part of a larger system.

In the field of film technology this term is denoted by a film camera, in anatomy for example the musculoskeletal system and the organ system. Also as a term for the deliverance and historical development of versions of a text this term comes into use.

In apparatus engineering these complex devices are manufactured. Depending on the industry these are produced in chemical equitment plants, in steam apparatus enginering or in glass equitment plants.
