Functionality: Fuel pumps transport fuel for internal combustion engines or jet engines from the tank to the carburetor, injection valves or injection pumps. They automatically dose the required quantity and the optimum pressure. The pumps are usually electrically driven and are located directly in the tank. The fuel flows around the drive and is thus cooled and lubricated. Diesel engines are an exception. Here the diesel is conveyed by mechanically driven positive displacement pumps, which transfer the power from the engine. The performance depends on the size of the engine and the design of the tank. If the engine comes to a standstill with the ignition switched on, the fuel supply must be cut off immediately. A built-in control unit with relay then switches off automatically. Properties: The seal is of great importance for smooth operation. If this is defective, it must be replaced as soon as possible. For a repair, universally usable components can bridge the defect for a short time. Repair with original parts is safer and more durable. These can often be purchased directly from the manufacturer. To check the success, the vehicle can be tested electronically on the test bench after the translation. If only one supply line is broken, you don't have to disassemble everything. It is sufficient to check the tightness and replace the corresponding hose section. Hand or peristaltic pumps are occasionally used to decant the fuel. They are based on a pneumatic principle and allow clean and drip-free decanting. Application areas: Fuel pumps are offered by the manufacturing industry in many types and sizes. These can be tiny pumps for model making, but also extremely powerful modules for tractors and trucks. For chainsaws, fuel pumps facilitate the starting process, as fewer starter strokes are required. This saves costs for consumption and maintenance. For gasoline delivery, flow pumps with peripheral or side channel principle are preferred. Diesel is pumped using positive displacement pumps based on the gerotor, gear wheel or roller cell principle. Devices which function with negative pressure are a special feature. They work pneumatically by using the change between positive and negative pressure in the crankcase.
