Media research, also called media science, refers to scientific research. The purpose of these studies is to determine the reach of all types of media among users. The following subcategories belong to media research: Media analysis, Media history and Media theory.Much of media research is used by those who provide the main communication. These are, for example, television stations (public and private), newspaper publishers and operators of various Internet sites.Media research can be shown using the TV station "SWR":To determine ratings, the station uses a special GfK measurement system. Selected households in Germany, which create a representative picture of viewer behaviour, receive a measuring device from the station. This meter connects either to the TV, VCR, or receiver. The meter comes with a remote control and each member of the family has a button on it. If a family member now wants to watch TV, he logs on with the button and then switches through the current program as usual. In this way, data is collected, which in turn is transferred to GfK. Information is drawn from this data and analysed.Bigger questions, for example about the use of consignments, are answered by studies.
