Aviation industry refers to those companies, which manufacture aeroplanes, other aircrafts (such as for example helicopters) or also those dedicated to the production of parts for aeroplanes (for example engines).
Thereby jumbo jets are not manufactured on a production line in contrast to a lot of other industry branches, instead they must be assembled in a clearly expensive and time consuming manner.

An example of this is the delivery by aeroplane manufacturer Airbus, which owns production bases in different european countries for the specialist production of components. For example in Hamburg the torso for the Airbus A320 is produced while the wings originate in Great Britain.
Due to the relatively broad distance between the individual factory locations the logistics are very cost intensive and complicated regarding the ideal transport of the parts to Toulouse for the final assembly.

In the principal works the individual components are assembled, which can take about a week for an aeroplane unit. After numerous quality and security tests it is eventually distributed to the customer.

The aviation industry is currently charcterized by two major companies, Airbus and Boeing and a few smaller small aircraft manufacturers, which play however a rather minor role in the passenger and freight aeroplanes market. This industry sector is primarily dominated by previously mentioned two companies.
