The SmartSTUD™ ensures axial and torsion-free pre-tensioning of bolts in threaded holes, under the most severe operating conditions and at very high operating temperatures.
The tightening of screws via the screw head generates different torsional loads due to the different lengths and the coefficient of friction is very strongly influenced. Due to the high torques and transverse forces, additional influencing factors act which make precise pretensioning impossible. In order to be able to introduce a torque into a screw connection, a secure support of the tool is generally necessary. These problems cannot be eliminated by the tool alone. The solution can be found in the overall system of screw connection and assembly. And SmartSTUD™ is part of this overall solution.
The
simple construction of the SmartSTUD™
The SmartSTUD is a screw that can be tightened torsion-free. The "screw" itself is designed as an expansion shank or solid shank and has two additional serrations on one side. The outer round sleeve forms the "nut" in the complete SmartSTUD system. A separate "washer" is also integrated for this purpose. This simple design of the overall system makes it possible for the first time for the "screw" to expand axially and, above all, torsion-free. And this under control of all friction coefficients.
Reduced to the essentials The dimensions of the SmartSTUD have been reduced to such an extent that the outer diameter corresponds to that of an Allen screw. The outer diameter is thus only 1.5 nominal thread diameter. Capsule nuts, which were previously also used for space reasons, can now also be replaced by the SmartSTUD. Higher preload forces can thus be achieved more quickly and more accurately.
Purely axial tightening of screws
The external toothing of the screw holds the drive of the assembly tool on the SmartSTUD in the axial direction of the screw. By turning the outer sleeve (nut) on its own washer, the bolt is expanded axially and torsion-free. All relative movements take place within the SmartSTUD, so that this system can be calibrated exactly to the mounting preload force independent of the application. For even greater accuracy.
Application range up to 600°C
Due to the simple construction and the adaptation to the dimensions of the capsule nuts according to DIN 2510, the SmartSTUD is creep-resistant up to 600°. This opens up new applications for this system, e.g. in the field of turbine couplings and hot running machines such as gas turbines. The SmartSTUD is mounted with all mounting tools of the series XXI™ and AVANTI™, as well as the jGUN™ AirTensioner. The existing tool equipment is thus multifunctional.
