WEG initially produced electric motors, in the 1980s it started to expand its activities, making electrical and electronic parts, products for industrial automation, power and distribution transformers, liquid and powder coatings and electrical insulating varnishes. The company consolidated its position not only as a manufacturer of motors, but also as a supplier of complete industrial electrical systems.
Asynchronous Machines - Manufacturers, Traders & Suppliers

Asynchronous machines refers to electronic motors and generators for the operation of an alternating current. These are characterised by the fact that the magnetization of the runner (rotor) is provided neither by permanent magnets (permanent-magnet machine) nor through an external current (synchronous machine). With these the rotor is magnetized by currents induced by the stator or rather the stator winding in its shortened turns. Thereby the rotor windings are either really shortened coil windings made of wire or short-circuit armature only consists of a solid metal cage, in which the very high currents can flow into. In application asynchronous machines have several advantages. For example, they are less expensive than other similar electric machines, as the squirrel-cage rotor are very simple in their construction and does not have to be elaborately wound. In addition, asynchronous machines have a very high starting torque, which enables them also against a strong resistance to driving without the need for a complex frequency control. The disadvantage of induction must in particular be seen by large consumers of electricity, the high demand for inductive reactive power, which is billed separately by the power company at a certain real power demand. However, the reactive power demand is not only of interest for large-scale consumers because the supply lines and possibly the power supply must be designed stronger and therefore more expensive due to the additional burden of reactive currents.
