internal gear pumps are, in contrast to external gear pumps, almost identical in construction to annular gear pumps and belong to the gear pumps. The internal gear pump has an internal toothed ring inside the pump housing. Driving gear wheel of pump runs eccentrically within inner teeth of this gear-ring. Consequently, the medium to be pumped is conveyed through the continuously changing displacement space between the tooth gaps of the wheels. A special type of internal gear pump is the sickle pump, in which the medium to be pumped is conveyed in the respective spaces between the tooth gaps of both gears. The outer ring of a gear ring pump always has exactly one more tooth than the inner wheel and has a trochoidal toothing. However, the outer ring of an internal gear pump and a sickle pump always has considerably more teeth than the inner wheel. These gear pump systems are used in practice, for example, as chemical gear pumps, precision gear pumps or motor oil pumps in the engines of modern cars. They deliver the respective medium very evenly and are designed to withstand very high pressures (high-pressure gear pumps) up to 400 bar within their respective hydraulic system (hydraulic gear pumps).
