Rudolf Kiesewetter róla nevezte el a lipcsei Excelsior gyárat Rudolf Kiesewetter, aki 1908-ban alapította meg az első mérőműszergyárat Németországban. 1942-ben a gyár megsemmisült, de a háború után, hatalmas és szüntelen erőfeszítések után a gyárat újjáépítették.
Kiesewetter úr 1958-ban halt meg. Ugyanebben az évben a vállalat félig állami tulajdonban lévő vállalkozás lett. A volt Demokratikus Németországban a Kiesewetter a méréstechnikai termékek egyetlen gyártójává fejlődött. A fő termékek közé tartoznak a kapcsolópanel mérők és expozíciós mérők.
