Depending on the version, it is a completely colourless or semi-transparent liquid which, when applied to wood, builds up a sealing layer. This causes the treated wood surface to lose its uneven surface structure; it is superimposed by the smooth protective film of the glaze.Je according to consistency, the thin- and thick-film glazes are differentiated. The former is an aqueous solution that penetrates deep into the wood during application; a protective film is only built up in a very thin layer, if at all, which peels off quickly. The thick-film glaze with its viscous consistency is suitable for this purpose. Due to its density it does not penetrate the wood, but forms a hard-wearing protective film. It is weatherproof, which makes regular glazing superfluous.Who has already applied a thin-film glaze does not need to sand it before applying a thick-film glaze. Rather, it can apply the thick-film glaze directly to the old glaze. Conversely, however, this is not possible because the thin-film glaze must penetrate into the wood, which is prevented by the protective film of the thick-film glaze.
