Rooms that belong together in a fixed building (house, residential building) are called apartments. These usually consist of a room that is used as a kitchen, a room that is used as a bathroom and at least one bedroom and a room for a stay. In most apartments, the first thing you have to do after opening the apartment door is to enter the hallway. From the hallway, separated by doors, you enter the other rooms of the apartment. The number of rooms does not include the kitchen and bathroom. So if you are looking for a 1-room apartment, the apartment usually has a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room.1 1/2-room apartments also have a slightly smaller room which is not counted as a full room because of its size. 2-room apartments therefore have two living rooms, kitchen and bathroom. In the old federal states, however, it is possible that the kitchen is counted as an independent room. If you are looking for a 1 1/2 room apartment, half the room is usually the kitchen. Because rents are increasing rapidly, so-called shared flats are particularly popular with students. Each resident has his own room in which he can stay, kitchen and bathroom are shared or used together.
