Dormitories can be student residences, among other things. These are indispensable in large cities with one or more universities. Since these are often very well-known and successful, they are visited by many students. The majority of these students often come from all over the country, if not even from distant countries, to attend this university. So that these students do not have to search themselves a dwelling, which is not large but expensive among other things in the cities of the old Lands of the Federal Republic, there are student residences. These are specially made for the students, so that they do not have a large but cheap apartment. Another advantage of these halls of residence is that they are often located close to the university grounds or the city centre. Other residences, for example, offer accommodation to foreigners who have just entered the country for very little or no money. So they have the chance to find a job so that they can earn their own money and afford a real apartment. Another type of dormitories are old people's homes. Here there are often elderly people in need of care who can no longer provide for themselves or simply no longer want to live alone when their partner has died. They will then be looked after by the nursing staff of the nursing home. However, old people's homes very often have a high price, although it cannot be said that the patients are really well cared for there.
