Coupling construction is the production of a mechanical connecting piece (coupling) for the separation of two elements. It is used in mechanical engineering and in vehicle construction (manual transmission). The clutch consists of a pressure plate, the cut-off wheel and a release bearing. It is mechanically operated and serves to separate the motor and gearbox. This ensures a smooth transition between different speeds when shifting gears. In the 50s and 60s there were still vehicles without clutches. In vehicles with an automatic transmission, a hydraulic torque converter is used. Another example for the term coupling is the trailer coupling; a connecting piece from the vehicle to the trailer. There are two types of trailer hitches:1. rigid version (permanently integrated on a crossbar on the towing vehicle)2. removable version (the ball head can be removed) There are vehicles for which the removable AHK is prescribed because the ball head covers the number plate. An E-Kit always belongs to the trailer coupling. A distinction is made here between the 13-pin and 7-pin wiring harness. The 7-pin E-set is used with trailers that do not require a continuous current and (or) do not have a reversing light.Nevertheless, 13-pin E-sets are usually used, since they can be converted to 7-pin E-sets by means of an adapter.
